LITTLE BRAVES/LITTLE WARRIORS

For our younger students we employ a learning structure which introduces the student to the basics of Karate and self defence through a system of specially devised games, talks and practices, which helps maintain their interest and enthusiasm. As the young students progress they begin to accept the self-discipline required to enable them too move up to their first grade (belt).

During these early stages we gradually teach our students the meaning and importance of respecting their parents, teachers, fellow students and peers and of course respect for themselves. We interact with the ‘Little Braves’ allowing them to talk and express themselves within the class which increases their self-confidence. Every student is treated with ‘equal concern’ and praised when they do well but they are never chastised for making errors, we merely gently correct the mistake.

The first belt (introductory belt) can be achieved in a time scale of six to twelve weeks. After this their next grading to red belt will take twelve to twenty four weeks depending on whether the student is attending lessons once or twice a week and of course, how much practice they are doing at home.

Our aim is to improve your child’s agility, fitness and stamina together with their hand to eye co-ordination. At the same time their attention span will increase as we constantly encourage them to listen to their tutor and try to absorb and remember their teachings.

When your child is ready, usually during the first year or two, he/she will be able to move up to the Dragon Warriors class where their tuition becomes progressively more disciplined in preparation for more advance training.

DRAGON WARRIORS

From 2003 we became a member of EFC Black Belt Schools coming away from the old martial arts systems and styles, sometimes referred to as the Dinosaur Age and Dungeon Dojos (halls) to the new way of teaching martial arts. The EFC teaches self discipline, self confidence, awareness, mental focus, increased attention span and helps children learn respect for parents, teachers and law and order.

The EFC is affiliated to 1,500 other martial arts schools in the U.S.A., Canada, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom, so the sharing of information, competitions and training etc., will keep our martial arts schools to the highest standards.

Our new schools’ roots stem from traditional Shotokan Karate but we no longer teach the old fashioned stuck-in-the-mud karate. We have adapted our style to incorporate the best from karate and other styles of martial arts and as part of our curriculum, our higher graded students will learn throws, sweeps, grapples, leg locks, arm locks, ground work, street defence and awareness of how to use their opponent’s strength and power against themselves. We also have Mat Nights – Judo. Here all our students learn basic throws – break falls – roll outs – ground defence and have great fun.

Our aim is to guide and encourage all students through the twelve kyu (levels) to reach their black belt. The Sensei (Teacher) is committed to ensuring that all students reach this goal. Remember everyone has the potential to obtain the Black Belt.

FIGHT CLUB SQUAD TRAINING

The new fight club will be for students who are interested in learning competitive fighting techniques thus becoming sharp and focused and lightning fast at evading, blocking AND scoring points. Students will also become very fit. It’s a fantastic buzz to win competitions, but remember it’s the taking part not the winning that REAL karate is about. Having said that I think it’s about time the students of Fudo-Shin-Ryu start training hard through fight club and becoming the best they can be… GO 4 IT!

KATA CLUB

Kata is the heart of karate. Learn the exceptional skill and balance of kata, learn the Bunkai (application), learn the blocks, kicks, strikes and throws… all of these through kata club. Karate starts and ends with courtesy and nothing shows this more than a good kata. Learn the hundreds of self defence techniques hidden secretly in katas.

KATA COMPETITION

There is nothing more delightful than watching or performing high level kata – something that in my opinion is just as exciting as kumite (free style fighting). You can win trophies and medals but without the bumps and bruises! So for students who don’t wish to do squad training why not join kata club or both if you are a GO 4 IT student.
